About
Welcome to the FUNKY16CORNERS Blog (MKIII).
Brief History
This is the third incarnation of the Funky16Corners Blog. It originated in 2004 on Blogger, and moved to WordPress (the free blogging service) two years later because Blogger was an unreliable piece of shit.
WordPress was fantastic, easy to use and reliable. I stayed there another three years, until they went on a tear shutting down MP3 blogs (without warning) for what I can only assume were DMCA/copyright notices. Funky16Corners wasn’t shut down (or threatened) but I wasn’t about to have five years of work go into the toilet, so I decided to figure out how to set up the blog on my own server using the WordPress platform.
So far, so good.
I have been writing about music in various forms (zines, newspapers, e-zines, blogs) since the mid-80’s. The Funky16Corners blog started in November of 2004 to focus on funk and soul vinyl. Since mid-2006, in addition to individual MP3 tracks, I have been posting mixes under the title Funky16Corners radio. Most MP3s and mixes will be available for a few weeks.
Posting Policy
Most song files are available for only 10 days. Please do not request re-uploads, either by comments or email.
Any and all legitimate requests for soundfile removal will be respected immediately. Email funky16corners@gmail.com to register a concern.
Requests?
Suggestions for new posts can be mentioned in comments or via email, but I generally have a huge backlog of material to post, so they rarely be honored.
Blogroll?
If it makes sense re subject matter/affinity I will add your site to the blogroll. I generally go through the links every few months and sites that are either abandoned, or have not posted new content in a few months may be dropped.
You can also check out the Funky16Corners WebZine.

Hey Larry,
How can I get your podcasts straight to my iTunes now you’ve moved? Is there a new url that I’ve missed somewhere on the site?
Thanks, and keep up the good work.

If you go into iTunes in the Advanced menu, select ‘Subscribe to Podcast’ and insert this link: https://funky16corners.lunarpages.net/?feed=rss2
It should pull in the most recent files, and then when you update podcast it should pull in new ones.
Larry
Thanks for putting some fine funky music out there for us to enjoy.

Have you checked out any of their mixes? http://www.thegetbackvegas.com
For all your other web visitors that haven’t heard of it, they can download a few mixes on the website.

Thank you for your tireless work and great site. I am a new blogger and would like to be added to your blogroll, how do I do that?

Hi Larry,
I’m a huge fan of your blog – you’ve turned me on to so much great music over the years and for that I can’t thank you enough. I’ve just started my own very modest affair over at https://scratchynoise.blogspot.com/
I’d be honoured if you’d include me in your blogroll.
All the very best from Scotland,
Duncan
Holy Shit, Larry, you have just made me one happy muther…..
i’m about as technologically minded as the pieces of vinyl in your collection (and i’m full of the same scratches)so me and this here interweb don’t get along too well, partly because i’m too old skool and i just plain didn’t like the thing. but you just might have restored my faith in the modern world if it allows us mere mortals to listen to the Gods of music (or the music of the gods!)
thankyou, kind sir, and you’ll be hearing from me again!

Hi Larry,
This is Woody Guenther of Woody Guenther and the Cheaters. I wanted to thank you for playing my record. I didn’t realize until now that it was popular. Feel free to contact me for the rest of the story! My email is rcguenth@verizon.net. I look forward to speaking with you. I have another unreleased single on the Shout label that might be worth a listen. Peace
Woody

Just wanted to say thank you for helping me with my radio show today. I was looking for info on Willie Tell and the Overtures’ (The Buena Vistas) “The Kick-Back” and you had previously offered up some great thoughts about who they might be – for which I credited you on-air.
This blog is a wonderful repository – keep up the good work!
Larry, just found your site and am grooving relentlessly to the Spindletop 1/10 set. All the music you feature here is the kind I have loved for years. You are doing a groovy job.Thank you so much! I know you have backlog and I don’t know if you have posted this before, also not sure if your vinyl includes the slow (33-1/3) variety, but I have recently heard a track from Jimmy McGriff and Junior Parker that was phenomenal, more of that would be heaven.Thanx again and keep up the wonderful work! Soul (Keep the Faith) – Burnin Vernon
I see you had a mp3 of night owl by the bad habits up I was wondering if you could put it back on here I have been searching for that version for a while now and would love to hear it again thanks
Larry,
I had the nerds at Radiodenon.com add your podcasts to their internet radio/ podcasts website. Now those with networked Denon receivers can stream from your site straight to the receiver. Once the weather warms up Ill be sharing your tasty tunes with my neighbors via the patio speakers. These people need a little soul to loosen them up!

Hi Larry,
Loving your blog and the tunes you are introducing me to. Keep up the good work. Kind regards from Glasgow. Scotland.
Larry, I have been a fan of your blog for more years than I can remember, a few years back I modestly started my own and, although not as frequently as you do, I do try to blog up mixes and individual tracks whenever I can. I’d be honoured if I could be added to your blogroll, you have had a proud place on my list for years.
Keep the faith,
Rich

Thank you for bringing the funk. I can’t seem to stop shaking my ass.
Thank you for the funk. I’ve been listening since Summer 04 and took the funk with me around the world.
Is there a way to donate to Funky16?
Fire.
As a fellow crate digger and vinyl soul funk obsessed collector, Funky16corners is the bomb. The knowledge you peeps spread is incredible, well written and great podcasts. Been following the blog for many years just wanted to say massive thanks and respect!
Thanks!
Yo Larry,
I dig your way out Blog.

Tony Adamo Gil-Scott Heron Mark Murphy Jack Kerouac
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Urbanzone Records) On his latest effort, and debut recording for Random Act Records, TONY ADAMO has created a
unique genre: “HipSpokenWord.” Built on the wisdom of musical wizards like Gil-Scott Heron,
Mark Murphy, Jack Kerouac and hip/hop master rappers, Tony speaks the Truth through his poetic
musings. With preeminent players like producer Mike Clark (drums), Richie Goods (bass), Delbert
Bump (organ), Michael Wolff (piano), Bill Summers (percussion) and Tim Ouimette, Rob Dixon, Derek
Gardner and even Tower of Power’s own physician of the funk, Stephen “Doc” Kupka.
This release will turn heads and blow minds: Tales of travails and triumphs, told in the hippest of ways! Tony speaks/sings his way through the urban landscapes of Jazz, Funk and Soul.
From the title track “Miles of Blu,” a nod to the dark prince of Jazz, to “JB,” an homage to the
Godfather of Soul, to a down-home “BBQ” and asking “America R We Free,” Tony tells it like it is
in his own mesmerizing manner.
The Grooves are infectious, the moods evocative, the music sizzling and the words – HIP! “MILES OF
BLU” takes listeners on a swinging journey, culminating in a funky good time!
Hey Larry…
first off, great site man…so glad I ran into it.
I have a question though, regarding the F16 Podcast Archive.
Is there any way or anywhere on the site that I can download the separate tracks, as opposed to the whole mixes???
Thanks in advance.
Hello people of funky16corner, my name is Nick and I am a college student in North Jersey. I would like you to check out my music. I have not focused on my instrumental music in years, but am planning to release something new by the end of the summer. Currently, I have one album out entitled “The Music In My Head” a conceptual instrumental album about the different thoughts and emotions one experiences in a typical day. “The Music In My Head” is heavily influenced by many genres including funk, fusion, jazz, cool jazz, hip-hop, blues, classic rock, classical, ambient, and others. Please take the time to check some of it out, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi:
Is this the Larry from “The Phantom Five” on Oxford Rd during the 80’s?
If so, this is your former next door neighbor. Glad to see, and not surprised, you are still into music. Hope all is well with you and yours! Drop a line when you get a chance.
HI
¿How can I download some tune from the player?
Thanks a lot for this amazing site!
Now I got It!
Thanks again
Larry, I was hoping you might be able to tell me anything about the career of Lillian Hale, associated musicians, or any of her other singles than “Don’t Boom Boom” (which was released in 1974 on the Fretone label, which was apparently started by Estelle Axton in her post-Stax days). It’s a slammin track, produced, arranged and co-written by Carl Maultsby. Sadly, some friends and I have been looking for any information we can find about Lillian Hale, Carl Maultsby, etc. and have found nothing but a dead end. Please email me back or post a reply should you be able to provide any information on this. It will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!! – Matt
Larry,
