I hope all is groovy in your neck of the interwebs.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned on Monday, my wife, the little Corners and I will be walking in the 2011 Monmouth\/Ocean County POAC<\/strong> (Parents of Autistic Children) Walk for a Difference<\/strong> on April 2, 2011.<\/p>\n

Thanks to those of you that have already donated.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be keeping the donation link in my posts (click on the logo below<\/strong>) until the date of the walk (4\/2). If you can afford to toss a few bucks into the pot to advance a very important cause, please do so. It is greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n

I should also mention today that I will be returning to Spindletop @ Botanica<\/strong> with DJ Perry Lane<\/strong> this coming Monday 3\/21<\/strong>. I\u2019ll be bringing a mixed bag of soulful sounds with me, including hard charging party soul, Northern, Hammond grooves and maybe even a little bit of early funk for your feet. Drop on by and say hi if you\u2019re in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

The tune I bring you today is something I happened upon a few years back.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know much about Pat Rhoden<\/strong>, other than that he seems to have been a journeyman ska\/rock steady\/reggae singer.<\/p>\n

He recorded for a variety of labels, including Ska Beat, Trojan, Attack, Pama and Horse between the mid-60s and the early 80s as a solo, and also as part of the duo Winston and Pat<\/strong> (with Winston Groovy <\/strong>of \u2018Please Don\u2019t Make Me Cry\u2019 fame) for Bullet.<\/p>\n

He recorded his cover of Stevie Wonder\u2019s<\/strong> big hit \u2018Boogie On Reggae Woman\u2019 for the Trojan subsidiary Horse. The date on the label says 1974, but Stevie didn’t hit with it until the very end of ’74, so unless he was sending his demos over to Pat, I’m going to go with 1975.<\/p>\n

I thought this was a groovy bit of circle-closing, that being a Jamaican cover of Mr. Wonder\u2019s tribute to the sounds of the island.<\/p>\n

Rhoden takes things at a mellow \u2013 ever so slightly funky \u2013 pace, and I really dig the drums at the beginning.<\/p>\n

He also did a very cool cover of Stevie\u2019s \u2018Living For the City\u2019 which I\u2019ll have to post sometime in the future.<\/p>\n

I hope you dig this one, and I\u2019ll be back on Friday.<\/p>\n
