Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Welcome to that island in the middle of the week where we all gather to get our heads together, make it over the hump and start marching toward the weekend.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s not a lot to say about today\u2019s selection that the music can\u2019t say for itself.<\/p>\n

Roy Ayers<\/strong>, master of the vibes (the instrument and the diffuse idea), who got his start playing hard bop\/modal and moved onto to become one of the masters of funky sounds in the 70s, gets into the studio with some heavy friends and works it out on a song that had been a very big hit earlier that year (1973) for Stories.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those of you that \u2013 like me \u2013 are old enough to remember that hit, well\u2026remember it<\/em> (from then).<\/p>\n

The rest of you for whom it is instantly familiar surely picked up on it via Louie CK\u2019s<\/strong> groovy show, wherein a version of it is used as the theme.<\/p>\n

The Roy Ayers take on \u2018Brother Louie\u2019 is from his excellent \u2018Virgo Red\u2019 LP, and sees the master and his band taking the song, strapping a little funk to it (with lots of those good vibes, literal and figurative) and there you have it.<\/p>\n

I dig it (and the whole album) a lot.<\/p>\n
