Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

I figured it might behoove me to get the week off to a start with something obscure, and of course, funky.<\/p>\n

I picked up today\u2019s 45 last year whilst getting my record show dig on.<\/p>\n

When I encountered the old, familiar Brunswick label, and then saw the title \u2018Soul Beat\u2019, you just know I had to slap this one onto the keeper pile.<\/p>\n

As it turns out this was a fortuitous decision, since Benny Scott\u2019s<\/strong> \u2018Soul Beat\u2019 is a very hot bit of funk from 1970, with some tight horns (it\u2019s mostly a horn feature) and a particularly messy, yet very cool guitar solo.<\/p>\n

Information on Benny Scott himself has been hard to come by.<\/p>\n

It would appear that he was a Chicago-based bass player (he played with both Curtis Mayfield<\/strong> and Leroy Hutson<\/strong>), and while my first instinct was to associate him with the Scott Brothers<\/strong> who recorded for Toddlin\u2019 Town (and other labels) I don\u2019t think there was a Benny in their midst.<\/p>\n

Either way, the 45 has quite a bit of flavor, and I would not hesitate to offer it up to a dance floor full of sweaty groovers.<\/p>\n
