Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

The tune I bring you today is an almost complete mystery to me.<\/p>\n

Before I scored a copy last year, I had heard of Soul East,<\/strong> and heard the tune \u2018Funky Lady\u2019 in a mix somewhere, but never really knew anything about the group.<\/p>\n

Actually getting my hands on a copy of the record hasn\u2019t done anything to improve that situation.<\/p>\n

A quick look at the label shows that the band was barely credited (the speed of the disc and the catalog number are both in a bigger font).<\/p>\n

It seems that the co-writer and producer, listed as \u2018Bud Scott\u2019<\/strong> may in fact have been NY-based producer Buddy Scott<\/strong> who wrote and produced a number of records for Pat Lundy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whether or not Soul East were also working out of NY, or if they were anything more than a studio concoction, I cannot say.<\/p>\n

What I can say with certainty is that \u2018Funky Lady\u2019 was released in 1969, and appears to be the only record released by the group.<\/p>\n

The tune features chicken scratch lead guitar (cool leads on Part 1), some punchy horns and rolling piano underneath it all.<\/p>\n

\u2018Funky Lady\u2019 does not appear to have charted anywhere, but it is a very tasty, very funky side.<\/p>\n
