This gives you all a chance to catch up on some soulful Christmas jams, and gives me time to rest my blogging muscles and enjoy the holiday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

I should get things started by noting that the next week or so will be filled with soulful and funky Christmas music.<\/p>\n

I will be posting new stuff (like you see today) interspersed some old faves.<\/p>\n

Here’s hoping that you dig it all, and that those that celebrate have themselves a groovy Christmas.<\/p>\n

It was way back in February of this year <\/a>that I featured the absolutely incendiary flipside of this biscuit \u2013 \u2018Cornbread, Hog Maw and Chitterlins\u2019 – in this very space.<\/p>\n

Funny thing is, the record was first recommended to me (by the mighty Midnight Cowbwoy<\/strong>) for the side you see before you today.<\/p>\n

I was in search of some groovy, soulful Christmas ish, and he suggested that Bobby Hollaway’s<\/strong> \u2018Funky Little Drummer Boy\u2019 could be had for not much scratch. So, off I went in search of said 45, found it, coughed up my ten smackers and eagerly awaited it\u2019s arrival here at the crib.<\/p>\n

Well, when it fell through the mail slot, I played the Christmas side, dug it and thought \u201cWell, that was ten bucks well spent!\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I flipped it over.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next thing I remember is waking up in a body cast (not really<\/em>).<\/p>\n

However, the \u2018Cornbread\u2026\u2019 side is as deadly a bit of organ driven instro-soul as has ever rolled down the pike.<\/p>\n

The Christmas side is a cover of a song thathas never really done much for me in its original form.<\/p>\n

However, it seems to be the kind of song that lends itself to particularly interesting soul and funk interpretations, like the George Conedy<\/strong> and Lenox Ave<\/strong> versions you have seen\/heard in this space previously.<\/p>\n

Mr Hollaway does yet another stupendous take on \u2018The Little Drummer Boy\u2019, picking up the tempo considerably and laying a whole lot of soul on what started out as a decidedly un-soulful tune.<\/p>\n

I have yet to discover anything about Bobby Hollaway \u2013 what little I was able to glean can be picked up in the earlier post <\/a>\u2013 and I wish I knew more.<\/p>\n

If anyone has anything to add to the story, please drop me a line.<\/p>\n
