Telling the World Goodbye <\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m coming out of the weekend feeling a touch somnolent, so I thought I\u2019d whip out something funky to get the motor running, as it were.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zulema Cusseaux<\/strong> may not be well-remembered today, but in the early 70s she was making some fine music.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing from Tampa, FLA, she was part of a local group, the <strong>Lovelies<\/strong> that was discovered by <strong>Van McCoy<\/strong> and renamed <strong>Faith Hope and Charity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That group had two hits in 1970 \u2013 So Much Love (#14 R&amp;B) and Baby Don\u2019t Take Your Love (#36 R&amp;B) \u2013 before Zulema left the group (which would continue to have hits into the late 70s) to go solo.<\/p>\n<p>She signed to the Sussex label, recording her first solo LP \u2018Zulema\u2019 in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s selection \u2018Telling the World Goodbye\u2019 (from her second LP \u2018Ms. Z\u2019) was her first solo hit, making it just inside the R&amp;B Hot 100 in 1973.<\/p>\n<p>Produced by<strong> Bobby Taylor<\/strong>, \u2018Telling the World Goodbye\u2019 is a funky number recorded with a who\u2019s who of West coast studio heads.<\/p>\n<p>The tune has that very groovy, funk on the way to disco feel that was coming to prominence around that time (note the presence of <strong>Eddie Kendricks<\/strong> collaborator<strong> Leonard Caston<\/strong> on piano), making it a treat for the feet as well as the ears.<\/p>\n<p>Zulema would chart three more times between 1973 and 1979, recording one more LP for Sussex, three for RCA and one for LeJoint before the end of the 70s.<\/p>\n<p>She would eventually leave the music business to lead the band in her church, passing away in 2013 at the age of 66.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you dig the tune, and I\u2019ll see you all on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep the faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Larry<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Example\" src=\"https:\/\/helium.lunarpages.com\/%7Efunky4\/pictures\/new_funky16_logo.jpg\" width=\"179\" height=\"181\" \/><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><\/strong> <strong> \u00a0<\/strong> _________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also, the brand new Funky16Corners &#8216;Keep Calm and Stay Funky&#8217;
