I&#8217;m a Good Woman <\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hows about traversing the middle of the week\u00a0with something deep?<\/p>\n<p>The record you see before you is one of those 45s that I chased for a long, long (loooong) time before I finally tackled it and tossed it into my record box.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019 by <strong>Barbara Lynn<\/strong> is a popular side with DJs and collectors, and as a result it can be a little pricey and there\u2019s a fair amount of competition when copies show up for sale.<\/p>\n<p>This can be attributed 100 percent to the undeniable <em>bad-ass-ness<\/em> of the song\/performance.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Lynn is one of the most underrated performers of the 60s and 70s, having had her biggest hit (\u2018You\u2019ll Lose a Good Thing\u2019) right out of the gate in 1962.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote and recorded \u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019 for the Tribe label in 1966,and despite its brilliance, it went exactly nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>This might have something to do with the fact that \u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019is something of a slow burner\/builder.<\/p>\n<p>It opens with a spellbinding (largely) a capella segment, and then starts stomping right away.<\/p>\n<p>The rhythm section and the horns hit hard, and get harder as the song moves on.<\/p>\n<p>I like to compare \u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019 to a record like <strong>Tommy Tucker\u2019s<\/strong> \u2018Long Tall Shorty\u2019, which starts off like a blues shuffle and turns into a buffalo stampede before you know it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019 is a solid dancer, which is why the DJs sweat it so hard.<\/p>\n<p>All of that, and the fact that the song is a stone solid feminist statement.<\/p>\n<p>Does it get any more plain spoken than <em>\u2018I\u2019m a good woman, so don\u2019t treat me like dirt!\u2019 ?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>No, it does not.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m a Good Woman\u2019 has been covered over the years by artists like Cold Blood (very nice reading by <strong>Lydia Pense<\/strong>) and <strong>El Chicano<\/strong>, and there\u2019s a very tasty modern cover by a UK group called<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Nwd_Ol5W648\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> Hannah Williams and the Tastemakers<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is a killer.<\/p>\n<p>Dig it and I\u2019ll see you on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep the faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Larry<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/helium.lunarpages.com\/%7Efunky4\/pictures\/new_funky16_logo.jpg\" alt=\"Example\" width=\"179\" height=\"181\" \/><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong> \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>_________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also, the brand new Funky16Corners &#8216;Keep Calm and Stay Funky&#8217;
