Greetings all<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a very groovy one for you to start the week.<\/p>\n

Groovy, and somewhat sonically deceptive, if you have your ears attuned to the library.<\/p>\n

If memory serves I grabbed this 45 while digging through the interwebs for Hammond sounds.<\/p>\n

When I first heard a clip of the song, the first thing that went through my head was \u2018UK Library\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Score\u2019 has all the hallmarks of late 60s\/early 70\u2019s UK library composers like Alan Hawkshaw<\/strong> and Alan Moorhouse<\/strong>, with it\u2019s groovy, fast moving organ and drums action.<\/p>\n

Once I got my hands on the 45, the first thing I noticed was that the song was composed by Charles Fox.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t know, Fox, who got his start arranging for Latin bandleaders in New York, was a major hitmaking composer of the 70s, writing\/co-writing songs like Robert Flack\u2019s<\/strong> \u2018Killing Me Softly\u2019, \u2018I Got a Name\u2019 by Jim Croce<\/strong> and the themes to tons of sitcoms and game shows.<\/p>\n

Fox was also writing incidental music for the NFL and ABC\u2019s Wide World of Sports, which is where \u2018Score\u2019 comes in.<\/p>\n

Composed as the theme music for \u2018Monday Night Football\u2019* in 1972, \u2018Score\u2019 was produced by Bob Israel<\/strong> (the \u2018Bob\u2019 in \u2018Bob\u2019s Band\u2019 no doubt\u2026) the man in charge of the company Score Productions, which was an American \u2018library\u2019 music house.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1963 to compose TV themes and background music, Score (where Fox had worked) created original music for new programs, game shows, TV movies and sitcoms, and is still active today.<\/p>\n

The funky \u2018Score\u2019 was used as the theme to \u2018Monday Night Football\u2019 from 1972 to 1975.<\/p>\n

It is very groovy indeed, and one of my favorite recent finds.<\/p>\n
