Greetings all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The middle of the week is upon us, so I thought I\u2019d smooth us all over the hump with some tasty library\/sample source sounds.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t recall when I became aware of guitarist Clive Hicks’<\/strong> \u2018Look Hear\u2019, but when I did it immediately lit up multiple pleasure centers in the brain.<\/p>\n

The first thing \u2013 is that \u2018Look Hear\u2019 is the sample source for one ofmy favorite hip hop joints, \u2018What\u2019s Golden\u2019 by Jurassic 5<\/strong> from their 2002 LP \u2018Power In Numbers\u2019.<\/a> There\u2019s something special about hearing a sample well-flipped, that also manages to stand on its own.<\/p>\n

\u2018Look Hear’ is such a sample.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t been able to track down much info on Clive Hicks, other than that he was a UK-based studio guitarist who recorded a number of sessions for the KPM and Bruton library music houses, as well as sessions for the likes of Elton John.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Look Hear\u2019 was released in 1973 on KPM 1121\/Fusion, alongside pieces by Brian Bennett<\/strong> and Alan Hawkshaw<\/strong> among others.<\/p>\n

The tune seems to be aiming for Zep<\/strong>-like heaviness, but also manages to work in some of that band\u2019s underlying funk as well.<\/p>\n

The guitar takes the lead but this one is all about the organ and the drums.<\/p>\n

It is a very groovy one indeed. I hope you dig it, and I\u2019ll see you all on Friday.<\/p>\n
