Greetings all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since the middle of the work week is approaching, I though it apt that I should smooth us all over the hump with one of my all-time favorite soul 45s.<\/p>\n

The Contours<\/strong>, despite having made a grip of excellent records, and one of the biggest\/best remembered soul hits of the 60s (\u2018Do You Love Me\u2019) are something of an also-ran, which is in no way an artistic judgement, but rather the public perception.<\/p>\n

Their work was of a consistently high quality, yet they labored in the shadow of the bigger Motown stars like the Temptations<\/strong> and the Four Tops.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They had eight R&B Top 40 hits between 1962 and 1967, with today\u2019s selection, \u2018Just a Little Misunderstanding\u2019 their second-to-last hit, making it into the R&B Top 20 in June of 1966.<\/p>\n

Co-written by Clarence Paul, Morris Broadnax<\/strong> and a youngster by the name of Stevie Wonder<\/strong> (who also plays drums on the record!), \u2018Just a Little Misunderstanding\u2019 is both a guaranteed dance floor killer, but also has enough pop hooks to stick in your ears.<\/p>\n

The stylish lead vocal is by Joe Stubbs<\/strong> (brother of Levi<\/strong>) who had done time in the Falcons<\/strong> and went on to join 100 Proof Aged In Soul.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This would be Stubbs\u2019 only lead vocal with the Contours, and he was soon replaced by Dennis Edwards<\/strong> (who would later join the Temptations<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\u2018Just a Little Misunderstanding\u2019 re-entered the UK charts in 1970.<\/p>\n

It is a very groovy record, and ought to have a place of honor in any soul DJ\u2019s box.<\/p>\n

I hope you dig it as much as I do, and I\u2019ll see you all on Friday.<\/p>\n
