Greetings all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The middle of the week is here, and to help us all get over the hump, I have a little stick of dynamite by the Soul Sisters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I picked up the 45 you see before you off of a friend\u2019s sale list, because how could I not grab a 45 by a group called the \u2018Soul Sisters\u2019 with songs called \u2018Good Time Tonight\u2019 and \u2018Some Soul Food\u2019 on it?<\/p>\n

It was a good thing I did too, since both sides \u2013 especially the one I bring you today \u2013 are smoking.<\/p>\n

The Soul Sisters were Theresa Cleveland<\/strong> and Ann Gissendanner<\/strong>. They had previously recorded as the Canjoes<\/strong> (with none other than Lou Johnson<\/strong>) before signing with Sue. They recorded a grip of 45s and an LP for the label between 1964 and 1965 as well as a later 45 for Veep.<\/p>\n

\u2018Good Time Tonight\u2019, written by Smokey McAllister<\/strong> who also penned the oft-recorded \u2018I Can\u2019t Stand it\u2019 \u2013 is a stomping soul shouter with a great horn chart and a ringing piano making its way through the mix.<\/p>\n

The Soul Sisters voices (one high, one lower) complement each other and it\u2019s not hard to imagine this getting spun in many a jukebox back in the day.<\/p>\n

The song was covered that same year by Ike and Tina Turner<\/strong> on \u2018The Ike and Tina Turner Show \u2013 Live\u2019 on Warner Brothers.<\/p>\n

I dig it a lot, and I hope you do, too.<\/p>\n
