The tune I bring you today is something completely groovy and unusual.<\/p>\n

If the name Razzy Bailey<\/strong> is at all familiar to you, it is probably because he was a country music hitmaker in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Bailey wrote\/recorded today\u2019s selection, \u2018I Hate Hate\u2019 in 1974, and had a sizable hit with it, first on Aquarian and then picked up for national distribution by MGM.<\/p>\n

The song is a sweet, danceable, ever so slightly funky number that has \u2013 over the years \u2013 become something of a fave on the Northern Soul and crossover scenes.<\/p>\n

The MGM version of the 45 is a slightly stripped-down take, with the children\u2019s chorus (billed as the Neighborhood Kids<\/strong> on the Aquarian 45) mixed way down, and the drums and percussion higher in the mix.<\/p>\n

Bailey, who got his start alongside cats like Joe South<\/strong>, went on to rack up a bunch of country hits (including a cover of Wilson Pickett\u2019s<\/strong> \u2018Midnight Hour\u2019) in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
