I don\u2019t know about you, but I could use a pick me up.<\/p>\n

What better way to get picked up, than a little energetic, funky soul.<\/p>\n

This particular 45 is very groovy, and especially interesting because it is a stylistic (no pun intended<\/em>) departure for the (here it comes\u2026) Stylistics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Known best for their big hits like \u2018You Are Everything\u2019 and \u2018People Make the World Go Round\u2019, the Stylistics shot out of the gate in 1970 with this number affixed to the B-side of their first 45 (and first chart entry) \u2018You\u2019re a Big Girl Now\u2019.<\/p>\n

Written by Marty Bryant<\/strong> and Robert Douglas<\/strong>, \u2018Let the Junkie Bust the Pusher\u2019 is a fast-moving, decidedly un-Stylistic, topical soul side that sounds like it could have been lifted from a Blaxploitation soundtrack of the time.<\/p>\n

Originally released on the local Philadelphia label Sebring, it got the group picked up for national distribution by Avco, where they would hook up with Thom Bell<\/strong> and Linda Creed<\/strong>, who would write so many of their biggest hits.<\/p>\n

The drums are especially heavy here, and you get lots of group harmony, as well as Temptations<\/strong>-like solo shots by members of the group.<\/p>\n

This particular song remains a 45-only cut, not making it onto the Stylistics debut LP.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s very cool, as well as cheap as chips, so go out and get you some.<\/p>\n
