Greetings all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The end of the week is upon us, so I will remind you once again to dig into this week\u2019s Funky16Corners Radio Show<\/strong> podcast. We end the week with one of my all time favorite slices of funky disco, that I have been a fan of since its original release back in 1973.<\/p>\n

I can state unequivocally that I first heard Eddie Kendricks<\/strong>\u2019 mighty \u2018Boogie Down\u2019 on WABC-AM<\/strong> (in NYC) while staying up all night in a pup tent on a Boy Scout trip. I can distinctly recall this one, as well as \u2018Rock On\u2019 by David Essex<\/strong> and \u2018Until You Come Back To Me\u2019 by Aretha Franklin<\/strong> (alongside ads for the local dragstrip, Raceway Park<\/a>) winding their way deep into my impressionable, 12-year-old ears.<\/p>\n

\u2018Boogie Down\u2019, written by Leonard Caston, Anita Poree<\/strong> and Frank Wilson<\/strong> was Kendricks\u2019 second consecutive R&B #1 hit, as well as a substantial Pop hit, making it all the way to #2.<\/p>\n

\u2018Boogie Down\u2019 is a fantastic example of the early days of disco, in which the records still had a decent amount of funk welded onto their frames. It is highly danceable (pushed along by a rolling piano line and percussion), and of course features Eddie\u2019s mighty falsetto out in front.<\/p>\n

While Kendricks continued to place records high on the R&B charts, this was his last significant Pop hit.<\/p>\n

I hope you dig it (and get up and dance).<\/p>\n
