Greetings all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of my favorite pursuits of the last few years has been exploring the discography of Dee Dee Warwick.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have to be honest and say that even though I knew of her (mostly in association with her sister, the huge pop star) I wasn\u2019t tempted to seek out her own records until I became obsessed with a cover of \u2018We\u2019re Doing Fine\u2019 on a Chris Farlowe<\/strong> record.<\/p>\n

Written by Horace Ott<\/strong> and first recorded by Warwick for Blue Rock in 1965, and covered by Farlowe the following year, \u2018We\u2019re Doing Fine\u2019 (which appeared here back in 2014<\/a>) is a fantastic tune.<\/p>\n

Jumping off from the Farlowe cover, I started to chase down Warwick\u2019s recordings for Blue Rock and Mercury between 1966 and 1969.<\/p>\n

It was in that search that I stumbled upon the record you see before you today, her cover of the Mamas and Papas<\/strong> \u2018Monday Monday\u2019.<\/p>\n

One of he great harmony\/folk rock records of the 1960s, \u2018Monday Monday\u2019 was also – at least in my opinion \u2013 an unlikely candidate for the upbeat soul treatment.<\/p>\n

That said, it is a killer.<\/p>\n

The 1967 45 (with a flipside written and produced by Gamble\/Huff<\/strong>) is a monster.<\/p>\n

Warwick\u2019s version of \u2018Monday Monday\u2019 is a storming, Northern-style mover with a relentless beat, blazing horns and a powerful vocal.<\/p>\n

Oddly enough, despite its obvious quality and artistic firepower, neither side of this 45 made a dent in the charts, though Warwick would go on to have a number of R&B Top 40 hits over the next few years.<\/p>\n
